Kristin Bruning, MD

Child and Adolescent & Adult Psychiatrist

I received my undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was a Johnston Scholar and graduated with a BA in Pre-Medicine and Latin American Studies. My MD was earned at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. Internship and residency training took place at Columbia Presbyterian NYC and Ohio State University, Columbus OH. I completed a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at George Washington University/Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC.

Following training, I served as an associate professor (teaching and training medical students and residents) first at Harvard University, then at Brown University. At Brown, I ran the consultation liaison service at Hasbro Children’s Hospital then worked as a staff member of an innovative intensive day treatment program for children and teens with severe combined medical/psychological disorders including diabetes, eating disorders, elimination disorders, cancers and psychosomatic disorders. I also ran a group for teenage siblings of children with disabilities. In 2015, I completed New York State’s Partners in Policymaking course to help families, individuals and professionals be more effective in influencing policy development and advocacy relating to the disabled.

Several years ago, I became certified as Koru Mindfulness Instructor. More recently I co-founded Koru Mindfulness LI with  amazing colleagues. Since 2019 we have taught the Koru Basic course to more than 200 participants.  Koru Basic is an evidence-based four-session introductory course developed at Duke University to teens and adults. I maintain my own daily meditation practice and actively further my mindfulness education via retreats, workshops, lectures, and readings. I am also certified in the “.b” mindfulness program for teens.

I live on the North Shore of Long Island with my husband and two children.
